Refuge or Idyllic Place.

For specials this week we have local rabbit fricassee and vegetable Cajun spiced rice. Details on the menu below. I was wondering where the word Cajun came from, and as ever a quick internet search came up with the answer for me. From Lafayette tourist board:-

The word Cajun began in the 19th century Acadia. Some referred to the Acadians as, “le ‘Cadiens”, dropping the “A”. Later came the Americans who could not pronounce “Acadien” or “‘Cadien”, so the word, “Cajun” was born.

Acadia was a colony of New France in northeastern North America, the word itself coming from the Greek “Arcadia” meaning Refuge or Idyllic Place. You’re welcome to join us in our own Idyllic Place on the bank of the river Teme for lunch and a serving of our specials or one of our other delicious unique wholesome dishes for lunch.
