While writing this on Monday night I noticed that the 12th October was a date with significance in the history of Ludford. In 1459 a battle in the war of the roses was fought and became known as The Battle of Ludford Bridge. From what I’ve read it seems it was a largely bloodless battle with the town of Ludlow coming off worst as the victorious soldiers apparently ransacked the town, and the defeated army being granted their lives after submitting to The King. As ever, seems like the ordinary people suffer the most in conflict! Read more at the end of the post if you wish.
